Standing in the face of staggering statistics and overwhelming injustice, Project Rescue exists as a multi-dimensional rescue ministry to sex trafficking victims and their children, providing a place of refuge where over 1,000 victimized women and girls have been aided emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually on their new path toward healing and recovery. Four of the eleven “Homes of Hope” in Southern Asia are focused on ministry to the children of sex workers, allowing them an escape from the horrors of the brothels and the same fate as their mothers.

The U COUNT Campaign is partnering with Project Rescue to help provide the following:

Barasat:

On land already purchased just outside of Kolkata, India, two new Homes of Hope will be built; one for the care of daughters of women in prostitution and the second, an aftercare residential/vocational center for rescued women who are survivors of sex slavery. This safe house offers a threshold of freedom and safety to former sex slaves, many of whom were sold into prostitution when they were as young as seven years old. Serving as both a residential and vocational training center, women will learn new trades leading not only to financial independence, but personal dignity and self respect.

Sonagachi red-light district:

Sonagachi, the largest red-light district in Kolkata, India, is an area with several hundred multi-story brothels and some 10,000 sex workers. Negotiations are currently underway by Project Rescue for the purchase of a building within the district to house an emergency residence and vocational center where job training and income generation will be accessible for women seeking freedom from the financial bondage of prostitution.
